Thoughts: Beware! Warning! This may contain spoilers!
Finally concluding my horror movies for the week, I decided to watch one more Netflix horror film, Lovely Molly. Unlike The Pact, which left mee with more questions than answers, Lovely Molly was a pretty good horror film.
The film was shot in a mix of personal shots and omniscient third person filming. It was an interesting mix, since we got the usual details from the ominiscient filming, and the characters' more detailed thoughts and feelings through their "personal" filming. The personal filming was similar to the Paranormal Activity series, except it was more reality tv style.
The movie started pretty quickly, with Molly and her husband, Tim, moving into their new house. Within the first couple nights, they are visited by an entity. This event causes them to install a security system, which allows for more scary moments to happen.
The weird thing about this film is that the entity is never revealed. We never quite see it, or see it do anything too treacherous, like make things move or such. Instead, it posesses Molly. But what I didn't understand, was how it related to her father, since Alice kept referencing her father's death, and how it was her father. Also, she kept referring to a horse, and at the end of the film all the pictures of her father are pasted over with horses. I still don't understand that, but it doesn't change the creepiness of Molly's persona change. The creepy parts of the film came from little things. Molly wondering around, not knowing what she was doing. Molly, randomly acting extremely out of character. Oh, and Molly randomly murdering different people she associated with.
There was also a strange twist, where we can decipher that Molly used to be a drug addict. The first part of the movie is also kinda mysterious because as the audience, we aren't sure if everything is happening because of a paranormal thing or because of a relapse in Molly's recovery. This confusion adds to the creepiness, since we're not sure how to think yet.
Rating: 6/10
