This past week was a whirlwind of fun! My friends and I hopped into a car and drove about 400 miles to Minneapolis to see Fall Out Boy in concert! Why Minnesota? Well, being the crazy die- hard fans we are... the Chicago concert was sold out and way over priced, so we decided to go to Minnesota in order to have the chance to see our favorite band!
Anyways, upon finally arriving at the venue, we had to wait in line outside in the nasty 90˚F + degree weather for about 1.5 hours. The line to get into the doors was amazing, it wrapped around almost three times and had 2 different forks that merged into different lines!
However, once inside the venue was really nice. There were two set of balconies and the standing floor. And as usual, we pushed our way into the standing room. The only different thing about this concert was how much pushing and shoving there was! I have had my fair share of moshing, pushing, and shoving from other concerts, however this one was all the time non-stop. I honestly though of leaving the pit at one point because it was so ridiculous and I was having trouble breathing! It was also the first time the band playing on stage didn't encourage people to push or dance, instead when Fall Out Boy came on stage, they told everyone to take 3 large steps backwards, and then they said no that's still not enough take 3 more!
But enough of the details, music is what is important here. The first band that played was New Politics. I thought I had never heard of them before, but I later found out they are on my iPod, and I recognized some of their songs, like Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, and Harlem. This band was super amazing! I went home and bought their music because they are a perfect mix of the old alternative sound with some new mixes, which makes their sound really unique. Another fun thing is that New Politics originates from Copenhagen (which is one of my all time favorite cities!). The singer, David Boyd, seemed super excited to perform. He was full of energy and kept saying how grateful he was for the opportunity to play. Also, he had some amazing dance skills! He must have been a free-style dancer because he could do everything! Check out my video or some of their music videos to see how amazing it is! Boyd also decided to surf the crowd, and he performed one song while standing on people!
Afterwards, we waited a dreadfully long time for Fall Out Boy to come. In this time the pushing and shoving "loveliness" ensued... However, once FOB started singing it was purely amazing. They did not lose any of their sound or any aspects of what made them famous in the first place. Their set and their sound proved just why they are considered alternative royalty. During the show they explained what prompted their come back, saying "music needed to have meaning again... not just random bullshit," hence what sparked them to "save rock and roll." Pete Wentz still looked amazing and the middle school fan girl inside of mee died every time he grinned or even looked my direction (I was in the 3rd row right below him)! Patrick Stump also lost some weight, and while I wasn't sure if it was because he was trying to hard for his solo career, I have to say that his voice was not affected what- so- ever! They sang all their new songs and all their old songs too! The excitement and feel of the crowd was amazing because everyone was in- tune with each other, and despite who you were, what you were wearing, etc, we all were there for the same music - and we all sang our hearts out together.
