A Look Inside: Bristol Renaissance Faire

So last week my friend and I decided to cross the IL- WI border and head to the Renaissance Faire. The Bristol Renaissance Faire is a themed festival, where workers and attenders can dress like the lords and ladies of the English Medieval Renaissance time.

The faire is pretty fun because there is tons of food, activities, shopping, and just people. One of the most interesting things is to see all the people dress up and walk around.

One of the main things that we did was watch the Queen's Jousting Tournament. It was neat because we were all given a knight to cheer, based on where we were sitting. It was kind of funny that a lot of the colors and crests of the knights reminded us of the families from Game of Thrones. But the fun thing about the jousting tournament is that its continuous. Which means that the first joust of the day is a warm up and knighting ceremony, the second tournament is the Queen's tournament for the favor of the queen, and the last tournament is a continuation from the second tournament, since it's scripted that a knight from the challenge cheats, and now it's a blood tournament for pride and vengeance.

{Movie}: Once

Once

Directed by: John Carney

Starring: Glen Hansard, Markéta Irglová

Genre: Romance, Musical, Drama

Rated: R

Year: 2006

Thoughts: Beware! Warning! This may contain spoilers!
After seeing Once, The Musical on Broadway and becoming obsessed with all the songs from both the music and movie, I decided it was finally time to watch the original film.

Some of the biggest differences between the film and musical were:
- Musical: Opens with the guy singing in a bar about his ex- girlfriend
Film: Opens with guy singing in the streets, helps convey the fact the he does not come from much money at all

- Musical: Girl is more blunt and straightforward. She isn't afraid to ask personal questions, taunt or push Guy.
Film: Girl is a more sympathetic and nice character.

- Musical: Stemming from the difference above, Girl steals the movies signature song, Falling Slowly, from Guy's pocket
Film: Guy, showing more interest in Girl, chooses of his own free will to play Falling Slowly for the girl

- Musical: Girl's flatmates make the band, who help play in the recording session and the banker also contributes
Film: The band is composed of people they find performing in the street, and the banker doesn't musically contribute

- Musical: Music shop owner has romantic feelings for Girl
Film: Music shop owner has no romantic feeling for Girl. He only shows up once in the film.

In total, I have to say that I liked the musical better than the film.

Rating: 8/10
